Advantages to a Smaller Pool

Why Buy a Smaller Pool

Dreaming of an inground pool? You aren’t alone! People all over Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the United States are putting in pools this year.

A swimming pool in your backyard is the stuff memories are made of. It’s a permanent vacation spot, a place for friends and family, a spot to exercise, a place to relax, and an all-around good investment.

Moreover, your pool is pleasing to look at and provides ambiance in your backyard.

But, what if you don’t have a very big yard? The good news is that you can put in a small inground pool. Sometimes called a plunge pool or a cocktail pool, these pools fit nicely in smaller backyards.

Let’s look at the advantages of a smaller pool.

Large Versus Small Pools

We love both small and large pools.

A large pool is a great place for a lot of people. In a large swimming pool, you can add a diving board, host parties, swim laps, and much more.

With a small inground swimming pool, you may have to do away with the diving board. You can still enjoy parties, exercise, and playtime in your small pool. The general size for a small pool is 12×24 feet. This is plenty of room for doing the things you want.

You can, of course, opt for an even smaller pool, based on the size of your backyard.

Here’s a handy tool for figuring out how big of a pool you need:

  • Decide how many people will use your pool at one time.
  • Plan for about 15 square feet per person.
  • Look at the total area you need for the largest party you’ll consistently have in your pool. Then, decide what your yard can handle. Hint: We can help you with this!

We can break this down with the math this way:

  • You decide 10 people will be in your pool at one time. That means you need 150 square feet of surface area. An average small pool (12×24 feet) has a surface area of 288 feet. So, you have plenty of room for your guests!

If you won’t ever have that many people in your pool, you can of course go smaller.

Now let’s look at some advantages of a smaller pool.

You Have Less Maintenance and Cost

With a small inground pool, you don’t have as big a pool to clean. Plus, you’ll need less chemicals, so you’ll save money. (Don’t forget we carry the best chemicals in Oklahoma – BioGuard Pool Chemicals!)

The smaller the pool, the less space you have to brush and vacuum.

In addition, your smaller pool doesn’t use as much water or chemicals.

It also won’t take you as long to heat your pool in the spring and fall. Because the pool is smaller, it will warm up faster with your pool heater. You’ll find this also saves you money because you don’t have as much water to heat up.

And it won’t take you as long to cool it in the heat of an Oklahoma summer.

Since small pools are generally less deep as well, you again don’t need as much water. Small pools are usually no deeper than about five feet.

Final Thoughts

Traditional and large-sized swimming pools are great, but they aren’t for everyone. If your yard is small, you don’t intend to host large crowds, or you simply want a more intimate experience, a small custom Fiesta pool may be just what you’re looking for.

With your small pool, you also have more room for a fire pit, outdoor kitchen, pool house, and seating area, too. And your small pool will still give you room for swimming, exercising, playing with your children, relaxing, and hosting small parties.

You can still add tanning ledges, infinity entrances, a hot tub, lounging spots, and more!
