What Happens If You Don’t Brush Your Pool

What Happens If You Don't Brush Your Pool

Many pool owners who have a robotic pool cleaner think it will do all the work for them. While it is certainly true that your pool cleaner does most of the heavy lifting, there is one thing you don’t want to skip out on.

It’s vital that you brush your pool! In fact, it’s so important, we’re going to tell you what happens if you don’t brush your pool.Your pool does require some maintenance on your part to keep it crystal clear, healthy, and algae-free. So what happens when you don’t brush it?

Algae Happens

The most important reason to brush your swimming pool is to prevent the growth of algae.

If you don’t brush the walls of your pool regularly, algae may start to grow on the surface. While chemicals can certainly help prevent algae growth, you also want to brush your pool.

Scale Builds Up

In addition, brushing the pool helps prevent scale buildup. For example, if dirt and debris settle on the bottom of your pool, they eventually build up into hard layers of scale that are hard to remove.

If you brush your pool, you eliminate this issue. We also carry BioGuard pool chemicals. Bring us a water sample to run through our Alex system, and we can help you with any problems you’re having!BioGuard

Etching is Kept at Bay

If you don’t brush your pool, you could end up with etching issues. Some pool chemicals can cause issues on the surfaces of your pool.

When you brush your pool, you can prevent this from happening.

Now that you know the importance of brushing let’s look at a few tips.

How to Brush Your Pool

There’s really not much to brushing a swimming pool, and what’s more, it’s a great workout. It’s also a great job for one of your kids! Just make sure to supervise them, so they’re safe.

Here are some tips for brushing your pool:

  • Follow a pattern. By doing this, you won’t miss a spot. You can choose up and down, circles, or back and forth. Choose the method that’s easiest for you, so you don’t miss any of your pool.
  • Start from the stairs. Why? The stairs usually need the most cleaning so you get this out of the way first.
  • Always push the brush. Don’t pull it. If you can, brush toward your pool drain so what you brush off the walls leaves through your drain.
  • Brush the walls next.
  • Then brush the bottom of the pool.
  • Use long strokes if you can.

You’ll be amazed at how strong your arms are at the end of the summer!

Brush Your Pool This Often

A good rule of thumb is to brush your pool a couple of times each week.

But if you have visible algae growth, you will need to brush a bit more than that.

Final Thoughts on

Brushing your swimming pool is the number one way to keep algae away.

You’ll also find it’s a good idea to brush your pool after you add chemicals. This can help them dissipate evenly.
