How to Drain and Refill Your Spa
Have you ever drained and refilled your spa? If not, we’re going to tell you how to drain and refill your spa for the clearest hot tub water.
How Many Times Per Year?
We generally recommend draining and refilling your hot tub two-four times per year or every two-four months.
How to Drain Your Spa
First, turn off the power. You don’t want any power at all going to your hot tub.
Second, drain the water. Use the pump or the drain plug and drain your spa completely.
In some instances, when you use the drain plug, you may be able to hook up your garden hose to it. Although, using the drain works must faster and is a better way to go.
It’s good to remember that you don’t have to drain your hot tub all the way. You can leave a little bit of water in the bottom.
Finally, it’s time to clean your filters. Take the cover off your hot tub and remove the filter(s) from inside the filter well.
Clean your filters with a high-quality chemical, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
How to Refill Your Spa
Now that you’ve cleaned your filters, you should put them back into your hot tub.
Next, fill up your hot tub. You can use a hose filter or put the hose inside the filter well. Why do it this way? Because, by allowing the water to flow through the filter(s) and into the pipes, you remove any air pockets.
Your last step is to test your brand new water. You want to make sure it is properly balanced and sanitized.
Good job! You just drained and refilled your spa. One word of caution though: we don’t recommend draining and refilling your hot tub when the temperatures are below freezing. Aim for days that are above 40 degrees to drain and refill your spa.
