5 Tips to Hot Weather Proof Your Pool
It’s hot in Tulsa during the summer, and we want you to keep on swimming all summer in a crystal clear pool. There are some steps you need to take, though. Here are five tips to hot weatherproof your pool.
Did You Know?
Many people don’t know that when it’s sunny, a hot swimming pool can lose up to 95% of its chlorine in the atmosphere. This can happen quickly. This happens when the hot weather heats up your water, and it evaporates. This can cause havoc with your pH levels and your chlorine levels.
And you know what happens then – algae and bacteria grow. It doesn’t take long for algae to take over and turn your pool water green.
To help you, we’ve put together tips to hot weather proof your pool so it stays healthy, clean, and clear all summer.
#1: Test Your Water Every Week
You want to pay attention to your chlorine and pH levels. Test often and especially after heavy bather loads, prolonged hot weather (this is all summer, Oklahomans!), and after heavy rainfall.
You can bring us a water sample, too, and we’ll test it for you. Our Alex testing system will print out just what your pool needs (or doesn’t need).
Do also clean your pool often and get rid of leaves and debris.
#2: Circulate Your Water
Ensure that your pool pump is running at least eight to 12 hours a day. This will help keep your pool clean.
If you have a salt pool, you may want to run your pump for longer periods of time. If you have questions, please ask us!
#3: Manage Your Filtration Systems
When it comes to your pool’s filtration system, we’re talking about your skimmer baskets, pump baskets, and, again, your filter.
Please make sure these are kept clean and free of debris.
Along with this, you want to keep your filters clean. This will increase the efficiency of your pool pump and help keep your pool clean.
Know when to clean and/or backwash.
#4: Keep Algae at Bay
Check out our selection of algaecides. They can prevent and even treat black, green, and mustard algae.
You also want to manage your phosphate levels, so be sure and shop in-store or online for our favorite products.
#5: Use a Fountain
Pick up a fountain and use it in your swimming pool.
This helps lower the temperature of your pool water by up to six degrees. That makes for a more pleasant swimming experience when it’s hot outside!
Water features such as a waterfall can also help keep your pool’s temperature low. Water features and fountains keep your pool water moving, which causes evaporation to cool down the water. You can use fountains during the night while you’re sleeping to really maximize their effectiveness. How? It’s because air temperatures are much cooler at night.
Stop by any Fiesta location to pick up a fountain you can easily and inexpensively add to your swimming pool.
Cooling Your Pool is Good for Everyone
We’ll love you with one last option, and that is to drain and refill your pool partially. Because the water you add from your hose is cool, it will cool your pool water temporarily. If you choose this method, don’t forget to test your water and make sure it’s balanced.
With a little tender loving care, you and your family and friends will enjoy your swimming pool all season long. You’ll have crystal clear water that’s sparkling clean.
