5 Tips to Hot Weather Proof Your Pool
It’s hot in Tulsa during the summer, and we want you to keep on swimming all summer in a crystal clear pool. There are some steps you need to take, though. Here are five tips to hot weather proof your pool.
Did You Know?
Many people don’t know that when it’s sunny a hot a swimming pool can lose up to 95% of its chlorine into the atmosphere. This can happen quickly. This happens when the hot weather heats up your water, and it evaporates. This can cause havoc with your pH levels and your chlorine levels.
And you know what happens then – algae and bacteria grow. It doesn’t take long for algae to take over and turn your pool water green.
To help you, we’ve put together tips to hot weather proof your pool so it stays healthy, clean, and clear all summer.
#1: Test Your Water Every Week
You want to pay attention to your chlorine and pH levels. Test often and especially after heavy bather loads, prolonged hot weather (this is all summer, Oklahomans!), and after a heavy rainfall.
You can bring us a water sample, too, and we’ll test it for you. Our Alex testing system will print out just what your pool needs (or doesn’t need).
Do also clean your pool often and get rid of leaves and debris.
#2: Circulate Your Water
Ensure that your pool pump is running at least eight to 12 hours a day. This will help keep your pool clean.
If you have a salt pool, you may want to run your pump for longer periods of time. If you have questions, please ask us!
#3: Manage Your Filtration Systems
When it comes to your pool’s filtration system, we’re talking about your skimmer baskets, pump basket, and again your filter.
Please make sure these are kept clean and free of debris.
Along with this, you want to keep your filters clean. This will increase the efficiency of your pool pump and help keep your pool clean.
Know when to clean and/or backwash.
#4: Keep Algae at Bay

In addition, checkout our BioGuard Pool Juice products as they can help manage your phosphate levels.
#5: Use a Fountain
Pick up a fountain and use it in your swimming pool. You can use it during the night while you’re sleeping.
